What are angel cards? And how do you use them?

What are Angel Cards?

If I’m honest, in the past I’ve associated Angel Cards (and Tarot cards/Oracle Cards) with dark hidden rooms and mystical tents at the back of dodgy circuses – slowly unveiled by a Gypsy-traveller who gazes into her foreboding crystal ball to warn you ominously about your future.

And as such – with my rather thin/wary understanding of it back then – I’ve regarded them with a dose of healthy scepticism –

Tarot reading and divination has been associated with the Romani and Gypsy culture and it also has roots tracing back to Italy. I also believe that many cultures and places outside of this have used tools and practices across time in order to try and seek understanding and knowledge of the unknown from a place higher than ourselves.

For me, I believe that this place ‘higher than ourselves’ is actually a place that is already within ourselves.

One of my all time favourite quotes is from Rumi (which I’ve illustrated on this print below) says exactly that:

For me then, Angel cards or Oracle cards are tools that can be used to access the knowing that is deep within us already. You draw a card or multiple cards and then allow whatever messages you need to receive be interpreted from what you see.

Sometimes it is easier to let our intuition rest on something that is external (like an Angel Card or a “sign”) because we are building up our ability to TRUST our own signals from the body. (because we are so disconnected from our bodies in this modern world – WHICH IS WHY WE NEED MORE YOGA IN OUR LIVES!)

I believe it works both ways: That sometimes – we have a deep knowing (INTERNAL) and the Angel Card (EXTERNAL) gives us ability to trust it.
AND also, sometimes we pick an Angel Card (EXTERNAL) (maybe with a hint of divine timing!) and it’s a key that opens a door to our deep knowing (INTERNALLY).

I don’t know if there is any inherent “magic” in Angel cards (decision-pending!), I think the magic is all within us anyway. And sometimes that little extra ‘nudge’ is just what we need at exactly the right time.

And maybe there is a little bit of magic in that!

The difference between Tarot Cards and Angel cards –

Tarot cards are more structured, they have 78 cards in total, 22 major and 56 minor cards. Angel cards do not necessarily have as much structure and systems around them and how to use them. Angel cards are more often used for guidance, gentle nudges and bursts of encouragement.

Both encourage an open-minded, open-hearted approach and both require tapping into intuition in order to create personal meaning.

Intuition is something that I have been FASCINATED with exploring recently (after a few crazy personal experiences!) and the more research and understanding I gather around intuition, the more I know that EVERYBODY has access to it – albeit some people are wired/attuned to it a little bit more strongly!

And ALSO there are specific skills, practices and techniques that you can use to create more trust within yourself of your deep “gut-feels” and “heart-knowings”!

And guess what – SURPRISE!! – some of the techniques that I’ve come across again and again in books and my research on it – come back to being in a state of FLOW… and…

SURPRISE AGAIN!! – we can tap into this flow state with yoga, meditation and creative-practices.

I wanted to share all these exciting findings and create a tangible practical space where we can move the body, get out of our heads into the heart, into creative flow and PRACTICE the art of intuition – through the body – so I created The Art of Intuition Day immersion – where we will be using all these skills and techniques – body, heart, soul and art to actually create our own set of “Intuition-guidance cards” – I’m so excited about this as it’s nothing like I’ve ever put out before and I know people will get so much out of it! (Plus getting to take home their own set of cards at the end!)

It’s 9th November 1 – 5pm at ReCentre in London – if you are interested in coming then email me on che.strawberries@gmail.com – space is filling up quickly!
