How to love your yogi toes

how to care for your yoga feet

Feet and toes are VERY important to yogis.

Firstly, because your feet and toes are literally on display ALL the time as a yoga teacher and secondly, because – everything builds from the ground up… which, is usually from the foot.

FUN FACT: Did you know that “The lumbosacral spinal cord innervates the pelvis and lower extremities and it is a cross-road for both the afferent nerves related to CPPS and the nerves innervating the lower extremities” – (cited from this study)

BASICALLY in non-doctor-mumbo-jumbo: your foot is connected to your pelvis and pelvic floor. Isn’t that crazy!?

So anyway, your feet are very important.

So important that I even have yogi-greeting cards dedicated specifically to them!

Maybe you’re someone who loves to take good care of your feet (well done you) or maybe you’re someone like me – who gets a good scrub + pedicure when the time rolls around (holiday, usually).

I thought it would be a good time to up my foot-care routine when one of the people at Pegasus got in touch to see if I would like a home pedicure kit courtesy of Flexitol – such a fun at home treat!

best home pedicure

The home kit came with step by step instructions on setting up a home spa, some fab lush Essie polish, some Flexitol heel balm, a pumice stone, file, clippers and nail buffers.

I decided to paint the nails on my hands first – which was a fail as then when I was trying to take my old toenail polish off – I had to be extra careful not to get my nail polish ruined. I even donned kitchen gloves for part of it – which was hilarious. But either way I relaxed and had a good ol’ foot soak and scrub, as directed!

After my foot soak, I applied the Flexitol – which was really nourishing for my skin – especially around my heels! (And it wasn’t greasy or oily). I’m thinking this is also going to be REALLY useful for when I get deep into my marathon training and the feet take a hammering and are in need of some extra TLC!

I also LOVED the Essie gel couture range and it gave such a professional-gel-look finish that I don’t think I will use anything else going foward for my home mani-pedis!

I talk often on the Kombucha and Colour Podcast about “SELF LOVE” and having self care practices – and although treating yourself to a pedicure isn’t the WHOLE hog of “self-love” – it does go a long way to have some time dedicated to pampering yourself in this way – and the good thing about a mani/pedi is that often you’re forced to sit down, not move or touch anything for a little while – which, for me – is the perfect opportunity for a few minutes of meditation!

Sounds like the perfect weekend-stay-at-home treat!

Do you have any other tips or tricks for caring for your yogi-toes? Or marathon running feet for that matter?! Please do share – I’d love to hear them!

Thank you again for Flexitol for gifting me this lovely little hamper!
