Diary of a creative Yoga teacher: Seven things Sunday

Back in the day when I was blogging for the heck of it, over on indieBerries (which has now become my portfolio site) – back when I didn’t give a shit about SEO – (just kidding, I still don’t really give a shit about SEO), I had a regular Sunday segment titled, “Seven things Sunday” – which was mainly a little bit of a recap of the week, some things I learnt or some fun things that happened over the week past.

I’m not sure where along the line I stopped doing that little segment, because I really enjoyed it! I think a large part of it got flung by the wayside because of settling into a new “Sunday habit/routine” which largely involved (involves) my husband, wine and the couch.

The “thick” of my blogging days was really when I was in a job that gave me WAY more free time than I knew what to do with (I know, right), and I was, for the most part, single. Then suddenly I got myself a husband (holla) and Sunday night couching was way more fun than writing to myself on my computer screen.

But lately I’ve been feeling a pull back to myself. My old self. And that sounds so bizarre to say, because of course I’m still the same me, but it’s a me with a whole new wonderful life – trying to fit everything in.

My old blog was also a way for me to keep a little bit of a diary of what I was up to as a virtual scrapbook of my time overseas. And that’s kind of what I’m feeling inspired to do right now. (FEK YOU SEO).

SO ANYWAY, to cut a long ramble (I’ve had a glass of Prosecco, can you tell?) short I’m bringing back SEVEN THINGS SUNDAY, like a little bit of a compliment to “Sunday Stories” – which Warr and I share every Sunday on my yoga instagram account. (It’s rather great as we discuss really boring shit like how WARREN MUST HAVE ALL THE SHIRTS SHAKEN, FACING THE SAME WAY, EQUIDISTANT APART, ANGLED INTO THE FAN WIND, ON THE DRYING RACK AND HOW SOME OF US CAN’T BE BOTHERED WITH THIS LEVEL OF TIME WASTING CRAP.) Really you should watch it.

Every Sunday,

it’s a thing.

Anyway, I digress – (blame the Prosecco)

We live in such a freaken fast paced world that for me to sit down and type out Seven things Sunday is little putting a BRAKES onto things for a tiny moment. In a good way. Social media is so quick, fleeting, consumerist. So I’m inviting you, if you choose to delve into this Seven things Sunday with me – to take it as an opportunity to SINK into something. Get your cozy pjs on, or roll out a blanket outside and truly SINK into something. For more than a scroll, for longer than a tap or a like, or a double click. Slow down, take stock, breathe in the week that has been. And be here right now. That is definitely my intention with bringing back this segment.

I’m committing to bringing back this segment! It seems like an arbitrary Sunday to start it but it’s my mom’s birthday today and I thought it would be as great a time as ever to check in on her next birthday and see if I’ve managed to keep it up for a year! I’m also hoping it encourages me to get my camera out a little bit more over the year. We ALL need to be nurturing our creative sides a little bit more. (A lot more).

So without further ado – here is my “first” Seven Things Sunday

  1. Warren and I took yesterday and went ALL out – we went to the London Museum to see the London Nights photography exhibition, then headed to St Pauls Cathedral to listen to the choir sing evensong – which was beautiful! Since we are child-free AND DON’T HAVE TO PLAN A DAMNED THING, we ended up at a Spanish Festival after that! (WOOT!) We then ambled our way along the river to South Bank for a drink and then out to dinner before heading home. It was SUCH a great semi-planned, semi-spontaneous day! London, you are freaken cool.
  2. Was simultaneously MARVELLING at how wonderful and easy it was to have such great spontaneous date-days out with Warr without having children to think about, and then in the next breath (at dinner) was expressing my (red-wine fuelled) feeling of being so imaginary-biological-clock challenged right now.
  3. It’s been about a month and a half since I had any alcohol to drink and yesterday I had a glass of red wine and today I’m drinking some Prosecco. I decided to just stop drinking for a while in the lead up to running my half marathon. And now that I’ve had some drinks after my half marathon last weekend, I can DEFINITELY notice how it affects my vibe – sometimes in a good way and then sometimes in a less good way. BUT ALSO, it’s SO delicious. #conundrum
  4. In case you were wondering, Warren and I also found an old school sweet shop called Hardy’s in the middle of London and we tried sour sweets that literally make your face pucker up. I don’t know why I felt it was important for me to tell you that. #prosecco
  5. Warren is VERY handsome. #moreProsecco
  6. I cleaned my office today and it is true what they say about a clean workspace/home space being equal to a clean and clear mind space. (MOM, YOU WERE RIGHT, Happy birthday.)
  7. I’m just LOVING the remix song Almost Home from Moby and Sebastian at the moment. It’s SO great.

Hope you’ve all had a wonderful weekend and if your weekend is a long one, I hope you’ve squeezed all the juice right out of it!
